PSI damage happens fast and is often permanent. Your machine's maximum rating is a ceiling, not a target. This table shows safe pressure levels for every common surface. Know these numbers and you'll avoid costly damage.
Understanding the PSI Ranges
Safe Range
Start here. Good for routine cleaning with minimal damage risk when using proper technique.
Caution Range
Higher pressure for tougher jobs. Needs solid technique and proper nozzle selection.
Warning Range
Damage threshold. Use only for specific applications and with extreme care.
Danger Zone
Will damage the surface. Avoid unless you have specific training for that application.

Factors That Affect Safe PSI
🎯 Nozzle Selection
The biggest factor. A 0° red tip at 1500 PSI does more damage than a 40° white tip at 3000 PSI. Always start with white (40°) and only increase if needed.
📏 Distance from Surface
Closer spray = higher effective pressure. Six inches delivers much more force than twelve inches at the same setting. Keep moving and maintain proper distance.
🔀 Spray Angle
Direct impact (90°) is most aggressive. Angling your spray at 45° reduces damage while cleaning well. Never spray perpendicular on fragile surfaces.
⏱️ Dwell Time
Holding spray in one spot concentrates pressure and increases damage risk. Keep the wand moving in smooth passes. Let the chemical and flow rate do the work.
🧪 Surface Condition
Old or weathered surfaces are more vulnerable than new ones. Softwoods damage more easily than hardwoods. Paint strips quickly under high pressure.
💧 Chemical Assistance
Good chemicals let you clean effectively at lower PSI. Use the right mix and let it work instead of increasing pressure. Better results, safer surfaces.
